Our Third

I have a secret, and this one is really good. For those of you who have asked, "What are you working on? We know you're working on something, WHAT is it?"

A.D. and I have been searching for "Our Third" for a long time. Years, in fact. As you know, it has taken both of us to produce Orchid and the girls, the magnificent originals which go out on exhibit. For the longest time, we dreamed of casting them and reproducing a Limited Edition.

Our definition of a Limited Edition is pretty much this: a set number, based on a master sculpt, each wigged-haired-eyed-painted-dressed differently. That means, each is as close to one of a kind as you can get. We wanted complete control over "our girls", this means doing all the work ourselves.

In discussing it, we decided that our dream was too much work for "just us".

We decided that what we were lacking was "Our Third", a third person who is as accomplished in the "third art", in mold making and casting, as we are in our "halves": sculpting/painting and sewing/beading. Early on, A.D. and I decided that "Our Third" had to be an incredible artist in their own right, in addition, they had to love our work. The person had to be, well, OurThird.

For those of you who follow A.D.'s live journal at http://www.angeldevilland.com/ , you will hear little of this amazing project which has consumed our lives. Presently, you will hear nothing about it from OurThird. OurThird is currently busy working on the project (Too busy to talk about it; it will get done now by doing, not talking.) A.D.,always and ever sotto voce ,said, "Nothing is close to done until it has hair and eyeballs."

However, I am now allowed to tell about it. So, you get to hear actual details, first, from me. Yes, the rumours are true: there will be a limited edition! Right now, the edition size is set at nine pieces. That is, as they say, nine pieces "worldwide". The edition will be called "Nine". The medium is resin. Yes, they will be fully jointed and wonderfully articulated: wrists, ankles, elbows, hips, knees, head. There are three of us producing them. A.D., myself, and OurThird. No, we do not know when they will be done. It is a huge, expensive, time consuming project for all of us. Yes, I will keep you posted from now on, when there is something to tell.

Basically, now that we are so far along, it is quite simple. A.D., myself, and OurThird have teamed up and are in the process of producing a total of nine amazing girls like Orchid, like Window, and like Vamp. They are available. Actually, now. They are being sold by us and will go out by what I like to call the "C.F. Method of Acquiring Great Pieces": "It's MINE; I called it FIRST." A.D., myself, and OurThird will take no money "down". If you want one, and you REALLY want one, you just "call it first" and we will see that you get one. Those of you who are aware that acquiring my stuff 'sight unseen' is about the only way to get my stuff fully understand this method. If you really want something, you opt for it "sight unseen".

Trust me. They should be beyond glorious finished. The sculpt is truly magnificent. If you are interested, email me at info@cathycara.com . No down payments; desire only. We're just listing who's interested so that they can be shipped out as soon as they are ready.

Just so you know: Yes, there are Nine. (Worldwide!) Yes, three will be available to the public; that's only the first three. Out of Nine, FOUR are already "accounted for". For math geniuses that means: THREE will possibly be gone, 'sight unseen' and that means that only TWO more will be available after that, maybe.

So, like I said: this is a secret. A big one. You either want something great and you jump on it, or you don't. Remember, it doesn't cost you money to say you want one. I don't bite (the neighbors may eat you, but I don't bite) info@cathycara.com

Oh, and before you ask, no OurThird is not the "name" of the incredible artist who is "our third". The project is still a secret. We haven't told the dollie mags, the bulletin boards, or anyone (except for spouses) about it yet. We've been working, working, working, on it and have kept it ultra-quiet. That's why we figured: our best fans get a shot FIRST. But you have to be a really good fan. Probably a great fan. You have to read Orchid's blog or A.D.'s live journal, or you have to KNOW one of us. You have to be really on top of this or you will miss this particular opportunity. So, we're still keeping secrets. The identity of OurThird is one.

However, I have provided a big clue as to the identity of OurThird. OurThird is quite famous. In the photo, the only resin, one of a kind, OurThird's Logo ever to be produced is sitting with Vamp. For your pondering pleasure, an impromptu photo shoot.

If possible, look at the extraordinary detail on the fingers in the Logo cast. OurThird is a force to be reckoned with in the casting arena, elevating resin work to high art.

Cat's Eye

Okay, people. Here's a real 'head's up'....

For all of you who are constantly pestering me to buy stuff, and who complain that every thing is 'sold' before you even see it....

A.D. has just completed 'Cat's Eye' and she is a beauty. She might be 'sold' as you read this, but then again, maybe you've gotten really lucky and she's not.

http://www.angeldevilland.com/catseyefull.jpg for the photo. And yes, the crown and the removable 'wings' are mine. Everything else is sheer A.D. magnificence. Orchid lovers, pounce upon this opportunity to obtain a 'hand-sculpt'. Remember, it doesn't hurt to inquire after her, we don't charge for questions. Contact: anuchka@angeldevilland.com

Who Can Turn the World On

With her smile?
Who can take a nothing day
and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Well, it's you girl and you should know it
with each glance and every little movement you show it.
Love is all around
No need to waste it.
You're gonna make it, after all.
- television advertising sitcom jingle

Horsies Crossing

The North Shore of our island has long been "horse country". With some Gold Coast residents being taught to ride before they can walk, it's no wonder that these long-legged beasts are near and dear to so many hearts.
.
A.D. has just finished up a run of felt horsies. Completely posable and absolutely adorable, they are the very darlingst things. Priced at under a hundred dollars each, they are sure to trot out of the studio quickly. Some of them are even wearing jewelry that I designed as their sparkling "horsie collars". Visit www.angeldevilland.com to see them. If you would like one reserved for you or made in custom colors, email anuchka@angeldevilland.com.
.
And here's a secret: While it is indeed impossible to imagine a horsie cuter than those already in the studio photographs, the absolute most adorable horsies are the ones that are custom made. Tell A.D. to "go to town" and make a special one "no holds barred" and just wait to see how incredible the little guy is that winds up on your doorstep. Also, anyone wanting to put one aside for Christmas should order now.

Teddie's Best Christmas Tree

One of the great secrets of our neighborhood, contributing to what makes all of us so very happy, is that Christmas is not relegated to one day in December. Rather, because it is so wonderful and so very much fun, we celebrate it all year long. The celebration is likely to take place at a moment's notice. If you are lucky enough to be invited, you go.
.
This elaborate afternoon was planned and executed by Cow Harbor's great Grand Dame of doll making. An expert in dolls, antiques, and hostessing, if the Grand Dame beckons, you come; her parties are simply exquisite. In the photograph you can see the intricately planned table arrangement.
.
Each invitee brought their own little teddy bear. The festivities began early in the day with the dressing of Teddy in a custom made, fur evergreen outfit. Each costume was then decorated with rhinestone stars. Fresh strawberry punch was consumed and laughter reigned supreme.
.
Three courses of delicious homemade lunch served on Christmas colored china with cloth napkins, crystal goblets, and mother of pearl sea shell napkin rings, capped off another incredible party.

Mommy, May I ?

More than one person has recommended that I see this movie. "May" is a film written and directed by Lucky McKee. Supposedly, A.D. and I are soul mates to the artist who created the starring doll in the photograph. If any one knows who did sculpt the doll for the movie, we would like to know; it seems they've made our work more popular than ever! One person was actually disappointed that they didn't use Orchid.
.
Comments regarding Orchid's future film career or lack thereof should be directed to the team that produced "riCotta". Visit www.ricotta.info and mark your calendars for the mid-May opening.

RiCotta

Yes, there is indeed a real live serious film maker amongst us. Filmed on location at an ancient castle in Italy, the work made its debut at the Chicago Film Festival. This is the eagerly awaited, not-to-be-missed, New York Opening of "riCotta". If you love my work, meaning: you appreciate "dark, atmosphic, and humorous", you are welcome to attend. Visit www.ricotta.info to view the official trailer and wonderful stills.
