From the West Coast Faerie Queen

As the winter winds blow chill, it warms my heart this holiday season to hear from my fellow fairy Queens all over the world.

The West Coast Faerie Queen is a talent to be reckoned with.  Anyone who has seen my dog has seen the power of her magic wand.

When her Monster Highs hit ebay or etsy I will try to give you a heads up.  I would think that they are probably selling before they ever hit the inter-web.  However, she might have a few stashed and up for grabs.

One More Day

I think that I will remove the Harborfields exhibit on Thursday, December 29th.  This leaves you one more day to see it.

Santaland Diaries

Listen to David Sedaris describe his job as Crumpet the elf:  http://www.npr.org/2011/12/23/144136439/david-sedaris-reads-from-his-santaland-diaries?ps=cprs
It is quite amusing.  I think that the elves in Little Cow Harbor have life a great deal easier.

The Other Side of Life

Limelight

While this song sounds arrogant, I have actually chosen it because it contains a hint of what is in the 'Alice in Wonderland blind box set of three masks' set.

I think that anyone getting that set will be very pleasantly satisfied.

Monday, December 5, 2011

"What am I looking at?"

That is certainly a 'frequently asked question'.

The answer is:
If you are at Harborfields, you are sharing Christmas with Weeener and Herber.
If you are at Harborfields, you are visiting with Rouge as he performs 'Rocky Horror Reindeer'.

If you are crouched down on your knees peering 'in', you are probably gazing at 'The Book in the Attic'.

If you are visiting Weeener, Herber, Rouge, The Moon and the Monster High guest of honor from Oz, please tell them that I say "Hello" and that I miss them.
I do hope that you are enjoying them.

The Filigree Staircase

I did not write this. However, I found it to be so very beautiful. Therefore, with the permission of its anonymous author, I am happily sharing it with you. Enjoy. Be well and Be merry.

When I was younger I imagined that life was like a huge meandering filigree staircase, as delicate as lace yet as strong as spiders webs.
Each rung was a day in a time and felt differently beneath my tred, sometimes resonating a soft footfall and sometimes as though the ground shifted, that reality & perception shifts so frequently it is impossible to feel stable and not be caught in an ever shifting
labyrinth just in the context of one single day. Like tiptoeing through reality wondering when the pavement is going to slip away....

So this beautiful yet treacherous filigree staircase has landings, they open up now and then, I don't know what they will hold..

Once a room so perfect in it's simplicity with cathedral soaring ceilings and a skylight holding the perfect moonlight, in the middle of the room a boy in monk's robes sitting playing the most exquisite piano carved from the bones of a million tiny prayer renowned for perfect pitch.
His eyes are still, calm and as empty as the darkest hollow.
The music he plays makes me weep with joy at the sheer beauty more profoundly ethereal than anything I have heard before.

I edge further in to the room, the boy looks up startled and to my horror I notice he has no ears. As he looks at me his eyes fill with pain and then the most immense joy.
Above the plain cowl of his tunic his ears start to grow like unfurling orchid flowers..

I realise that in me he has witnessed imperfection for the first time and this has made him whole...Each our own lesson on this
landing....so I step away on to the next delicate yet ever holding rung of my journey.

Primitive

Rouge is my runway model horse.  His gowns were all made by me.  I hope to share them with you soon.  I mailed a great many of them away while we were working on him in Florida.

Money Can't Buy It

This song is for Rouge.  I miss you, dear horse of dreams.

I believe in the power of creation.
I believe in the good vibration.
I believe in love alone.

Do not let this vintage poster illustration fool you. Rouge is actually male.

Hello, Harborfields.  I hope you are enjoying the very lovely Christmas portion of the show.  If you have not seen the Christmas exhibit yet, Weeener and Rouge will be around until the last week in December.  They will come home to me just before New Year's Day.

The gorgeous powder puff pink creature is Rouge.  Rouge is my 'Gay Pride' Drag Queen Diva.  Here is his music:

Monroe's eyes are hand done 'pinks', her dress has a beautiful butterfly bodice.  Monroe's shoes, which you cannot see, rival Cinderella's.

Xen's Ghoulia

You are looking at Roisin, who is a Dollmore Lusion.  Roisin is holding a "Ghoulia" Monster High custom.  Xen is the Ozian Queen who has performed magic on the Lusion and on the little Monster High.   A legendary Queen amongst Queens, Xen's work is epic due to her consummate skill.  She combines an innate keen eye, glorious great good humor, superior agile adeptness with the camera and then matches them up to pretty paint brush and slippery sewing needle.

Actually, I made all of that up.  We are sure that Xen just uses magic.

What I wanted to tell you is this:  watch for the Ghoulia during the holiday season at Harborfields.  This is the  the first time that Xen's work is on exhibit in the United States.  Xen and I are working very hard at getting the little Ghoulia to click her red heels and appear in Little Cow Harbor.  We have not told Weeener she is coming from Oz yet; her new friend will be a Christmas surprise.
A Monster High Ghoulia normally looks like this: http://www.monsterhigh.com/bios/ghoulia

Information on the exhibit at Harborfields is here: http://orchidzblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/simply-divine-holiday-season.html

A Simply Divine Holiday Season

I have been invited by the Harborfields community to do a two month public 'holiday treat'.   Certainly the holidays in the fairyland in Little Cow Harbor are not like the holidays of anywhere else.  Festivities will commence on November 3rd and run until New Years of 2012.  I am planning to change the exhibit promptly after Thanksgiving, so you will have to go at least twice to see the show in its entirety.

Chloe will start November off and Divine will take over until the close.  Weeener will be around for the show's entirety.  I have promised her darling Herber as a companion and one of Daisy's fabulous fire ponies, so I have no fears over her being too lonely.  Besides, she is an excellent reader thanks to Miro and can keep herself very busy with a stack of  good books.

The show is available for viewing any time the library and its attendant art gallery is open.
Find the hours of operation as well as directions to Harborfields here:  http://harborfieldslibrary.org/main.html

May your holidays this year be Simply Divine.
Speaking of which, all things Simply Divine can be found here:  http://simplydivine99.blogspot.com

Once Upon a Time

Premiered this evening.  Join me on Sunday nights this fall; I will continue to watch it for its first season.

The Devils

In 1955, this French film was a very big deal. In 2011, it is considered a 'suspense classic'. An unpredictabe murder mystery which took theater goers by storm. Long before CSI and "The Sixth Sense" there was "The Devils". Enjoy it if you have never seen it.

When you find yourself getting bored, look at the scenery. There is enough there to keep you busy. Stare at the wallpaper, watch until the 'end'; remind yourself that this is 2011 and films are much more fast-paced.

Once you have seen it, remember: Don't reveal the ending !

Little Cow Harbor Meets Irene

Little Cow Harbor cheerfully weathered Hurricane Irene, partying on more merrily than ever.  Irene provided an excellent excuse for neighbors to catch up with neighbors and to celebrate life with impromptu glasses of wine.  Ice to chill the wine was at a premium.

Trees fell.  No one was hurt.  Our neighborhood loves when no one is hurt.  If our animals are safe, then we are even happier.

This was the house, up the hill, across the street:
This is the house one house away, down the hill, behind us.
Lone Oak is what passes for a main throughfare in our hamlet.
This is the tree which blocked Lone Oak all week and made the neighbood crazy.

In Little Cow Harbor we continue to live happily ever after.

Crazy Frog Dance

Laurant is back in the States; his sojourn in Vancouver has come to an end.  The Queen of Slantways will be overseeing his care here.  Laurant will not be completed in time to be shown with Bramble this May.  He is a rather large bullfrog and he is a very large project.  But, I am excited to tell you that "The Frog and the Fairy" are still underway.  I have never tired  of  the story of the Frog Prince.  Laurant and Bramble give us a chance to present our rather unique take on that story.
.
Bramble, the fairy who falls in love with Laurant, will be available for viewing at the articulated fantasy show in Seattle at the end of May.  Bramble has not yet been "seen".  She will be "revealed" at the show and will be amongst the very fine dolls that you will see if you attend.  You can find the Queen of Slantways as well as  information on this show which is entitled "Uncanny Dream" here: http://candygears.livejournal.com/17238.html .

Join me in the excitement of "The Frog and the Fairy" and watch a rather crazy frog dance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BLYJjRncJw

A very special thank you to the artists who have been taking such good care of Laurant.  He means a great deal to me and I look forward to the "someday" when he will be completed.

Doll Study Club Meets My Dog

Edgar had a fabulous time at the doll show yesterday.  I had been telling him and telling him that he could not attend events because he did not have a jacket to wear.  His silver silk jacket is almost finished, so at the last moment, after telling him he could not go, I was talked into changing my mind.  Edgar went and had a grand time.

He ousted an antique dollie and spent the day sitting in a vintage wooden chair fit for royalty.  Well, he is a 'royal dog'; not every dog is owned by a Queen.  Edgar received presents from the ladies and happily showed his doggie dick to anyone brave enough to see it.

Edgar making himself at home and enjoying the Club's hospitality:

Edgar with the "sprinkle the wand and wave good cheer" dog toy which he received as a present:

Edgar before he left for home, availing himself of the bushes in the parking lot:

The pink boa was a lovely gift to Edgar.  My dog would like to thank the Doll Study Club for their warm welcome.  Normally dogs are not permitted at shows.  He is grateful for all of his presents.

It was quite the outing for my dog as he is not permitted to do exhibitions.  (Yes, because I said so.)  I am sure that Edgar will be talked about, well, simply forever.

Doll Study Club III

This photo is for the Ozian Queen.  Lest we be tempted to dream and to forget that pale twins and mulitple ball joints are not new inventions ...

Doll Study Club Show II

I do not usually do this, the "this" being "spotlight one vendor from a show", but Diane had such a delightfully lovely display for this weekend's Doll Study Club show that I wanted you to see the photographs separately.

It is truly a shame that I did not take more pictures of what Diane brought, because each doll and each creature was more delightful than the last.  She hauled so many things from Connecticut that she deserves more of a medal than a blog entry.  I figure that a blog entry is the least i can do.

The crocheted sheep were simply adorable and they were only eight dollars each.  I do not know where my photo of the 'mouse in a teacup' went, but I simply loved him.  Diane had truly lovely taste in art dolls and hand made teddy bears.

Click the photos to make them larger.  Please feel free to contact Diane to purchase anything that you see here.  If you live in Connecticut, stop in to say hello.  You can find Diane here:  http://www.dianesdollshoppe.com/index.html
